Nico Parker Reveals the Gross Secret Behind ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Sets

Nico Parker Returns to the Show: From “The Last of Us” to “How to Train Your Dragon”

Our next guest is a talented actress you know from shows such as The Last of Us and movies like Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Dumbo, and Suncoast. She stars in How to Train Your Dragon, which will be in theaters and IMAX this Friday.

A Warm Welcome Back
The audience erupted in cheers as Nico Parker stepped onto the stage, greeted by the host with enthusiasm. “Hi! How are you?” the host asked.

“I’m so good. Thank you for having me back,” Nico replied with a bright smile.

The host shared that his two sons, the Meyers boys, were particularly excited about her new film. “That’s the absolute dream,” Nico said. “I think the kids’ review is the one that I’m the most anxious about.”

She recounted a memorable moment from the premiere where she met a young fan. “Her mom was like, ‘Tell her what you thought.’ And I asked, ‘What did you think of the movie?’ She said, ‘I preferred the animated one.’ I was like, ‘Okay, yeah, fair enough!'”

From Zombies to Dragons
The conversation shifted to her previous role in The Last of Us, where she played Pedro Pascal’s ill-fated daughter. “A good 30 minutes,” she joked about her character’s brief but impactful screen time.

When asked if she continued watching the show after her character’s exit, Nico admitted, “I haven’t watched the second season because the idea of seeing Pedro die is deeply distressing.” However, she praised her co-stars, including Bella Ramsey and Kaitlyn Dever, expressing her desire to watch for their performances.

Behind the Scenes of “How to Train Your Dragon”
Nico shared fascinating details about the film’s production. Despite the heavy use of CGI, the sets were remarkably practical. “They built these realistic Viking huts,” she explained. “One day, we noticed a horrible smell—turns out they’d hung rotten fish everywhere and used a fan to blow the stench around for ‘authentic Viking vibes.'”

When it came to stunt work, Nico humorously confessed, “I did too much of it. I’m not good at it.” She recalled being hoisted 60 feet in the air on a wire, realizing only then how terrifying the height was. “Roy Taylor, our stunt coordinator, just said, ‘There’s only one way down,’ so we started filming.”

A Magical Theme Park Experience
Nico also visited the new How to Train Your Dragon themed zone at Universal Studios. “They stay in character the whole time—’Hi, Vikings! Goodbye, Vikings!'” she laughed. Though she and co-star Mason Thames were instructed to give big reactions upon entering, they were left speechless by the immersive world.

Final Thoughts
As the interview wrapped up, the host congratulated Nico on the film. How to Train Your Dragon lands in theaters and IMAX on Friday, June 13th.
